WE CAME FOR ELVIS, WE STAYED FOR THE SERENTIY, WE LEFT RELUCTANTLY.We came for the Elvis festival and found ourselves boycotting the events to enjoy the outstanding accommodation and Wendy and Kims superlative hospitality. Wendy and Kim have built this retreat, and embraced a way of life, founded on the core values of green living and the authenticity is immediately apparent. This is not the pale, anaemic green of eco-tokenism, but the deep rich hue of the real deal. The underlying values and thoughtful attention to detail is everywhere from the tactile handrail made from a bough on the entry stairs, side tables crafted from a redwood log from the local area, to the recharging point for the electric car. The garden is gorgeous and one look at the view from the lounge and you will feel the serenity seeping into your bones.Breakfast provisions were beyond delicious and included sourdough bread, butter, yoghurt and muesli, all of which were homemade. Always helpful and hospitable, but never intrusive, our hosts were a total delight. This is a place that felt like home without the housework, and Wendy and Kim made us feel like family without the fights. Girrigirra truly a testament to the restorative power of green.
Unless you see Girragirra for yourself, you wont truly understand its beauty. The hosts, Kim and Wendy have created their own little oasis and are there for you as much or as little as you like. Everywhere you look, is simple impressive. From the most abundant veggie patch that you can wander through, the most pristine sunrises and serene surroundings, to the dcor in the guest house - everything is in its right spot and fits in perfectly. And if that isnt enough, these 2 amazing humans have this incredible dedication to sustainable living. Wendy makes her own sourdough, cultured butter, sauerkraut, kombuchaKim has started growing his own mushrooms, the list is endless! Their can do attitude is infectious and I went back city life feeling much more aware about my footprint on this earth. If you want a relaxing getaway, please get yourself to Forbes and stay at Girragirra, you wont want to leave.
I've stayed at Girragirra twice over the past couple of years, and each time was equally wonderful. The accommodation is perfect - beautifully designed sustainable living space that provides views of the surrounding landscape, even from the bathroom! Thoughtful little additions of fresh goodies from the most wonderful, flourishing and abundant permaculture garden. The best part however, are the duo behind Girragirra, Kim & Wendy. The warmest, most generous and fun couple I've met. They welcome you into their little slice of heaven, that they've created from the ground up. You'll laugh with them, and learn lots too. They're around to help you with whatever you need but not at all intrusive if you want some peace and quiet and respite. Do yourself a favour and book into Girragirra, you will leave there a better human - on all fronts. Thankyou Wendy & Kim, we love you!
What a delight!From the moment we arrived, Wendy and Kim made us feel right at home. The accomodation is fantastic, the surrounds are wonderful and the food provisions were exceptionally fresh and delicious. The fire at night with a glass of red wine topped off a great evening and was followed by freshly baked sourdough at the door in the morning. Could not contemplate staying anywhere else if we are in or around Forbes in the future. In fact we'll find an excuse to be in the region again just to spend a few more nights at Girragirra.
